Static QR Code generator — a code that never expires

A static QR Code stores the destination address inside the pattern itself, so it needs no server, no subscription and no redirect to keep working — which is why it cannot expire. Every code generated on this page is static.

Generate your QR Code

Paste the destination link and, optionally, fill in the UTM parameters.

Works with any address: website, landing page, menu, catalog, form, playlist or social profile.

UTM parameters

optional

UTMs tell Google Analytics where each visit came from. Leave them blank if you do not need tracking.

Where the traffic comes from: instagram, google, flyer, newsletter.

The kind of media: qrcode, social, cpc, email.

The campaign name, identical across all of its channels.

Static vs dynamic QR Codes: the actual difference

A static code encodes your URL directly, while a dynamic code encodes the provider's URL and relies on that provider redirecting to you forever.

That single difference decides everything else. A static code has no owner, no dashboard and no monthly fee, and it keeps working if this website disappears tomorrow. A dynamic code can be edited after printing and can count scans — but only for as long as somebody keeps paying for it.

Dynamic codes are the reason for the well-known failure where a printed campaign stops scanning months later: the free trial behind the code ended, and every piece of print became a dead link at once. Static codes have no equivalent failure mode.

When a static QR Code is the right call

Choose static whenever the code will be printed, will live a long time, or points at an address you control and can edit yourself.

Packaging, signage, menus, business cards, equipment labels, book pages and anything else that is expensive or impossible to reprint all argue for static. So does any use where you simply do not want a third party sitting between your customer and your page.

Dynamic makes sense in the narrow case where the destination genuinely must change after printing and you cannot control the page it points at — a short-lived campaign redirect, for instance. If you can point the static code at your own URL, you get the same flexibility by editing that page instead.

How to keep a static code editable in practice

Point the code at a short, permanent URL on your own domain, then change what that page shows whenever you need to.

This gives you the one real advantage of dynamic codes without the dependency. A code pointing at yoursite.com/promo can lead to a Black Friday page in November and a summer campaign in July, because you decide what /promo renders.

Keep that URL short as well. The more characters a QR Code has to encode, the denser its pattern becomes and the harder it is for a camera to read at a distance or at an angle.

Frequently asked questions

Can a static QR Code stop working?

Only if the page it points at goes away. The code itself has no expiry, no subscription and no server behind it, so nothing about the code can be switched off — including by us.

Can I edit a static QR Code after printing it?

Not the code itself, because the address is part of the drawing. You get the same result by pointing it at a URL you own and changing what that page shows, which leaves every printed copy valid.

Can I track scans of a static QR Code?

Yes, through the destination rather than the code. Add UTM parameters in the generator and Google Analytics will report those visits as their own source instead of lumping them into direct traffic.
