QR Code for print: high-resolution PNG, free
A print-ready QR Code needs enough resolution to stay sharp on paper, a quiet margin around it and a size matched to how far away people will stand. The generator here exports a 1024×1024 PNG with high error correction, which covers all three.

Works with any address: website, landing page, menu, catalog, form, playlist or social profile.
UTM parameters
optionalUTMs tell Google Analytics where each visit came from. Leave them blank if you do not need tracking.
Where the traffic comes from: instagram, google, flyer, newsletter.
The kind of media: qrcode, social, cpc, email.
The campaign name, identical across all of its channels.

What resolution a printed QR Code needs
At 300 DPI, the 1024×1024 PNG from this tool prints cleanly up to roughly 8.7 cm (3.4 inches) square, which covers flyers, menus, packaging and business cards.
Beyond that size the pixels begin to show at close range. For a poster or a banner, hand the printer the PNG and ask them to scale it with nearest-neighbour rather than smooth interpolation — QR Codes are hard-edged patterns and blurring the edges is what breaks a scan.
Never rescale a code by screenshotting it or by exporting it from a slide deck. Both quietly resample the image and soften exactly the edges a scanner depends on.
The size and margin rules that decide whether it scans
Keep the code at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide for anything held in the hand, and leave a blank quiet zone around it about four modules deep.
For codes read from a distance the working rule of thumb is a tenth of the scanning distance: a code meant to be scanned from 2 metres away wants to be about 20 cm across. Signage and vehicle graphics fail far more often for being too small than for anything else.
The quiet zone matters as much as the size. Text, a border or a photo edge crowding the pattern will stop a scan even when the code itself is perfectly sharp, so do not trim the white margin to make it fit.
Colour, contrast and material
Print dark modules on a light background, keep strong contrast, and never invert the code so that it is light on dark.
Most scanners assume dark-on-light and simply will not read the inverse. Low-contrast pairings — grey on beige, navy on black — fail for the same reason, and they fail more on cheap paper where ink spreads.
Glossy laminate and metallic stock add specular glare that blinds a camera at certain angles. If the surface will be shiny, size the code up and test a real printed proof with two or three different phones before committing to a run.

Frequently asked questions
What file format should I send to the printer?
The 1024×1024 PNG works for essentially all commercial printing. If your printer specifically asks for vector artwork, send the PNG anyway and let them place it — the pattern is pure black and white, so it traces cleanly.
Is there a watermark on the printed code?
No. The PNG contains the code and nothing else, with no logo, no border and no branding, and it is free for commercial use.
How small can a QR Code be and still scan?
About 2 cm is the practical floor for a modern phone at arm's length, and that assumes a short URL and a clean print. Shortening the destination address is the cheapest way to make a small code readable, because fewer characters means a coarser, more forgiving pattern.

QR Code generator for restaurant menus
A menu QR Code is a static code that opens your digital menu the moment a guest points a phone camera at it — no app to install and nothing to type. Generate one below, free, with no account and no expiry date on the code.
Static QR Code generator — a code that never expires
A static QR Code stores the destination address inside the pattern itself, so it needs no server, no subscription and no redirect to keep working — which is why it cannot expire. Every code generated on this page is static.
UTM builder: tag any link and get its QR Code
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL that tell Google Analytics where a visit came from, without changing the page that opens. Build a tagged link below and get a QR Code for it in the same step.
